Latin II

Wayne Valley

Course Description:   Continuation of Latin grammar, mythology, and cultural background of ancient Rome.  Special attention is given to increasing vocabulary as well as translation of  Latin into English and English word derivation from Latin roots.

Textbook:  LATIN FOR AMERICANS - UNITS VI - X

Expectations:  Students will bring textbooks, notebook and writing utensils to class every day.   Students will take notes, and participate in classroom language learning activities on a daily basis.  Vocal participation is a must.  Good questions are of special value.

Students will keep a derivative book of English cognates derived from the vocabulary words in each lesson.  A list of  8 - 10 derivatives (if possible) for each vocabulary word is optimal.

Monday, December 8 - Review homework sentences to be translated.  Start Lesson 29 on page 202.  Teach Vocab. on pages 205-206.  Teach grammar of Possessive Adj. on page 203.  Teach Perfect Passive on page 208.  Start story on page 202.  HW:  Noun/adj. drill on Possessive Adjective.  Wednesday paper:  SEVEN KINGS OF ROME.

Tuesday, December 9 -   Review HW on noun and Possess. Adj.  Revidw Personal Pronouns. Page 202 Continue Lesson 29.  Page 208 Teach Pluperfect Passive and review Perfect Passive.  HW:  Conjugate IUBEO in Perfect ACTIVE.  Also paper on Seven Kings of  Rome.

Wednesday, December 10 - Review IUBEO in all Perfect Active Tenses.  Page 208 Review Passive Voice - Perfect, and Pluperfect.  Teach Future Perfect Passive Voice.  Also see pages 399-404.  Page 202 Continue story and try to finish.  Quiz on Friday on Lesson 29.  HW;  Iubeo - Passive Voice, Perfect, Pluperfect, and Future Perfect.  Next Wednesday paper:  The Horatii.

Thursday, December 11 -  Review IUBEO Passive Voice, Perfect Tenses.  Complete story on page 202.  Workbook pages 140-142.  HW:  Vocab. and story Lesson 29.  Quiz on Friday.  Next Wednesday paper:  THE HORATII.
