Latin I

Course Description:  Basic Latin grammar and cultural background of ancient Rome, including Roman/Greek mythology.  Special attention is given to English word derivation from Latin roots.

Textbook:  LATIN FOR AMERICANS BOOK I - UNITS 1 - V

Expectations:  Students will bring textbook, notebook, and writing utensils to class every day.  Students will take notes and participate in classroom language learning activities on a daily basis.  Vocal participation is a must.  Good questions are of special value.

Students will keep a derivative book of English cognates derived from the vocabulary words in each lesson.  A list of  8 - 10 derivatives (if possible) for each vocabulary word is optimal.
