Course Description: The first year of Spanish introduces the students to the fundamentals of the language: the phonetics of the Spanish alphabet, a foundation in vocabulary; an elementary understanding of grammar and an appreciation of cultures and attitudes of the Hispanic world. Reading materials, videos, compact discs and the Internet will help to acquaint student with customs, culture and current affairs in Spanish-speaking countries.

Expectations: In order for the students to achieve their best, it is very important to have a positive and co-operative classroom environment. Everything you do contributes to the atmosphere in the classroom. Students must arrive to class on time. They must bring Spanish notebook, folder, textbook (covered) and pencil or pen to take organized notes and do activities in class. Quizzes and Tests are always announced in advance and only blue or black ink is allowed of taking quizzes and tests. Study for quizzes and tests. Projects will be assigned during the course of the school year. They may be group or individual. Homework is assigned almost every night and always checked. It may be collected and graded at any time. Marking Period Grade will be determined by the number of points achieved (on tests, quizzes, collected homework, projects and class participation) divided by the total number of points available. Midterm 1/3 + Final 2/3 = Fifth Marking Period Grade.
