Course Description: This course continues to introduce the student to the basic fundamentals of the language;a foundation in vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and an appreciation of cultures and attitudes of the Hispanic world. This course continues to allow the student to comprehensively acquire basic vocabulary while also employing skills in the usage of grammar and syntax. Reading materials, videos, compact discs and the Internet will help to acquaint the student with customs, culture and current events in Spanish-speaking countries.

Expectations: Students need to come to class prepared. An organized notebook and a folder are preferred. Pens and pencils are needed in class and all quizzes and tests must be taken using in black or blue ink pen. Work is assigned almost every night and it is always checked. Quizzes and tests are always announced ahead of time. A review is always given the day before a test or a quiz. Projects may be assigned during the course of the year and are always announced ahead of time to allow for a preparation. Class participation and a positive attitude are always encouraged. It is the student's responsibility to come to class ready to learn and to participate. All tests, quizzes, projects and collected homework will be assigned a specific point value. The amount of points will be determined by the worth of the work. Your marking period grade is determined by the number of points earned divided by the number of possible points.ts. Each student will receive a class grade based on how well he/she has fulfilled his/her responsibilities as a student in class. This grade is given once at the interim and once at the end of the marking period. The Mid-Term Exam is worth 50% and the Final Exam is worth 50%. Being on time for class is mandatory. If a student is late, disciplinary actions will be taken. Keep in mind that learning another language is a lot of fun.

Unidad 1/ Etapa 1: "Feliz Aņo Nuevo 2009" 01/05/09: Distribute review sheets/ study guides for test of Unidad 1/ Etapa 1. Students will be able to use their notes and packets to do all the activities to prepare for test. Homework: Finish all the activities and start studying for test.
01/06/09: Go over the review activities from study guides. Review preterite vs. imperfect by going over quiz taken on 12/22. Homework: Study for test.
01/07/09: Test- Unidad 1/ Etapa 1. Homework: Study the first 15 new nouns from the new vocabulary list.
Objectives: Unidad 1/ Etapa 2. In this lesson, students will be able to describe fashion and talk about past times in Spanish. They will also be able to express actions in the future by using the future tense of regular and irregular verbs in Spanish.
