Textbook: Da Capo;  Amsco Italian workbook

Expectations:  Students are to come to class with the textbook, workbook, a notebook, and a pen or pencil everyday.  Please have the textbook covered at all times.  If the book is not covered, a detention will be assigned. Class work and notes should be reviewed on a daily basis at home in addition to any written exercises that may be assigned.

Weekly Activities

Week of September 3  Discussion of class policies and expectations; conversation practice (summer activities and events); presentation of vocabulary p. 3 (Da capo); reading p. 2; reading comprehension check; review of present tense regular verbs pp. 4-6.

Week of September 8  Students will continue to use the vocabulary on p. 3 relating to hobbies  as well as practice both the regular and irregular forms of the present tense.  Monday Conversation practice--students will relate their weekend activities answering questions from their classmates.  Tuesday Quiz- vocabulary p.3 and regular verbs in the present tense; review of the irregular verbs in the present tense. Wednesday Students who are not  freshman facilitators will play Scrabble and sharpen their vocabulary skills. Thursday  Review of  corrected quizzes; presentation of subject pronouns and their particular uses.  Friday Pep Rally no class.

Week of September 15 Students will continue to practice their speaking skills as well as the present tense through the exercises in Da Capo pp. 6-13. Monday  Conversation practice.  Tuesday  Presentation and practice of the construction present tense +da+ time expression.   Wednesday Review of subject pronouns p. 12; presentation of the gender of nouns.  Thursday Students not attending the in-school training  will visit the new computer lab in order to practice vocabulary on the website www.freerice.com. Friday  Review of the gender of nouns pp. 14-16; correction of exercises a and b on p. 17.

Week of September 22  Students will again practice their speaking skills as well as the plural and gender of nouns. They will also begin the reading Tonino Capone p. 19-20 (pre-reading.  Monday Conversation practice; review of pp. 15-17 for quiz.  Tuesday Quiz pp. 15-17; presentation of new vocabulary p.18.  Wednesday Review of corrected quizzes; review of vocabulary using peer correction; begin pre-reading p. 18 (Da Capo)in groups. Friday Discuss pre-reading questions; begin reading Tonino Capone p. 19.

Week of September 29  Students will complete  Tonino Capone while refining their speaking and writing skills.  Monday Conversation practice; quiz- vocabulary pp. 18and 20.  Thursday Review of corrected quizzes; review of worksheet on Tonino Capone.  Friday  Discussion of questions on Tonino Capone  p. 21; review of chapter one.                                                     

Week of October 6  Students will be evaluated on their comprehension of the reading Tonino Capone, increase their knowledge of common expressions related to extending, accepting and refusing an invitation and learn additional vocabulary related to childhood activities.  Monday Quiz- Tonino Capone; conversation practice (reading of research paragraphs).  Tuesday  Presentation of "Per comunicare" pp. 23-24; review of corrected quizzes.  Wednesday  Presentation of new vocabulary p. 26-27; presentation of "come eravamo" p. 26.  Thursday  No school  Friday  Review of vocabulary; correction of exercises pp. 27-28  presentation of the imperfect tense.

Week of October 13  Students will continue to learn vocabulary related to childhood and use the imperfect tense to express these activities.  Monday Conversation practice and discussion of Columbus Day (word search).  Tuesday  Watch video of the Columbus Day parade and the interview with the Grand Marshal; review imperfect tense for quiz.  Wednesday  Quiz- imperfect tense; review of pages 26-27 for quiz; presentation of the plural of adjectives pages 32-33.  Thursday  Quiz- vocabulary pp. 26-27; practice with the plural of adjectives.  Friday  Correction of exercises a, b, and c; presentation of the adjectives grande and santo.

Week of October 20 Students will be able to make nouns and adjectives plural and correctly use the different forms of grande and santo.  In addition, they will review the forms and use of the indefinite articles (pp. 36-37) and learn the various forms of the adjectives buono and nessuno (p. 38)  Monday Conversation/Writing  practice-Students will write 3 sentences describing their weekend activities on the board.  Their classmates will correct the sentences.  Tuesday  Presentation and practice of the plural of nouns and adjectives (pp. 32-34).  Wednesday Review of the plural; presentation and practice of the irregular adjective grande.  Thursday Review of grande and santo; presentation and practice of the adjective buono and the use of the indefinite article; students will be able to ask last minute questions about the project due tomorrow.  Friday No class due to Class Clash . 

Week of October 27  Students will read Ricordi d'infanzia pp. 44-45 and present their childhood memories project to the class.  In addition, they will demonstrate their mastery of the vocabulary presented on page 43 and the use of the adjectives buono, santo, and grande. Monday Conversation practice-project presentation; quiz on p. 43 vocabulary.  Tuesday  Remainder of projects will be presented; review of corrected quizzes.  Wednesday Review of the plural of nouns and adjectives as well as the  forms of buono, santo, and grande; pre-reading activities for Ricordi d'infanzia p.44 1-4.  Thursday Sharing of answers to the pre-reading exercises; begin reading Ricordi d'infanzia p. 44.  Friday  No class due to Pep Rally.

Week of November 3  Fall Break

Week of November 10   Students will continue to read and discuss Ricordi d'infanzi pp. 44-45.
