Expectations: Students are to come to class with the textbook, workbook, a notebook, and a pen or pencil everyday. Please have the textbook covered at all times. If the book is not covered, a detention will be assigned. Class work and notes should be reviewed on a daily basis at home in addition to any written exercises that may be assigned.

Week of September 3 Discuss class policies, introduce the alphabet, choose Italian names; learn the numbers from 0-10); distribute books.
Week of September 8 Review of the alphabet, greetings, and numbers; introduction of the days and the months; practice dialog with introductions and greetings. Monday Review of the alphabet, numbers from 1-10 and greetings; presentation of the numbers from 11to 20. Tuesday Review of the alphabet, greeting and 1-10 for quiz; review of 11-20; presentation of the days of the week. Week of September 15 Students will be able to say the months of the year, tell time on the hour, do simple addition and subtraction with 1-20 and learn the numbers from 21 to 100. They will also be able to recite a poem about the numbers 1-20 from memory. Monday Quiz- months and days; practice with greetings and numbers from 1-20; presentation of the numbers 21-40. Tuesday Review of corrected quizzes; review of 21-40; collect and discuss map of Italy. Wednesday Review of greetings, months and days; presentation of the numbers from 41-60; presentation of telling time; practice poem. Week of September 22 Students will be able to use the number from 1-2000, tell time using minutes, and tell their age, birthday and year of birth. In addition, they will learn general information about Italy. Monday Review of 1-100; presentation of 200-2000; presentation of the birthday and birth year. presentation of the expressions "e un quarto", "e mezzo", and "meno un quarto "with telling time. Tuesday Review of numbers, birthday and birth year; use of numbers for addition and subtraction; review of telling time. Wednesday Quiz (numbers 1-100 and telling time); review of 200-2000; presentation of the ordinal numbers 1st to 12th. Thursday Review of corrected quizzes; review of the ordinal numbers; review of months, birthday, birth year, and the numbers from 200-2000. Friday Quiz months, days, time and ordinal numbers.
Week of September 29 Students will be to answer questions about the months and days of the week using ordinal numbers. In addition, they will learn the seasons and several weather expressions as well as begin the study of chapter 1 in the Forza textbook. Monday Review of corrected quizzes, presentation of the seasons of the year and the weather expressions Fa bel tempo, fa brutto tempo and piove; introduction of the 24 hour clock. Thursday Review of weather expressions and the seasons; review of the 24 hour clock. Friday Quiz Telling time on the months, days and seasons; introduction of the textbook Forza uno.
Week of October 6 Students will learn vocabulary related to the classroom and school; they will also learn how to manipulate the verb essere. In addition, vocabulary related to weather and the seasons will be reinforced. Monday Presentation of vocabulary p. 5 and the reading "Questa e la mia classe" pp. 2-3. Week of October 13 Students will continue to learn vocabulary related to school and the verb essere. In addition, they will practice reading simple sentences and learn how to answer in complete sentences. They will be evaluated on their comprehension of chapter 1 as well. Monday Review of vocabulary page 13 through workbook pages 10-12; discussion of Christopher Columbus through word search activity. Week of October 20 Students will learn to describe themselves using the verb essere and the adjectives on p. 20. Week of November 10 Students will demonstrate their mastery of the structures and concepts learned in chapter 2. Furthermore, they will learn new vocabulary related to the family. Week of November 17 Students will continue to learn to describe their family, their house and use -are verbs in complete sentences.
