Expectations: Students should come to class each day with the following: textbook, notebook, pen and Spanish/English dictionary. Failure to do so will have a negative impact on grades.

Weekly readings and assignments  

 

First Marking Period

Week of September 15, 2008-Students will spend the week working on a review of the work in Spanish 1. On Mon we will review question words and their uses in sentences. Using p. 14 Act. 15 we will choose question words, and complete sentences based on our choices. then we will make up 10 sentences to ask a classmate. Tues we will do our interviews, and write up an introduction to that student for the class, and Wed we make our introductions, then review the reading on pp. 12-13. Thurs we will tell time (pp. 15, Act.18,19) and make up our "horario diario". Fri we will review the conjugation of present tense verbs and the verb "ir", and do a teacher-generated worksheet to test our retention. Students will break into groups and make up their own review sheets for the class– what clues can you give to help people remember the conjugations?

Week of September 22, 2008- Mon and Tues we will have time to complete our reviews of present tense conjugations, and practice with Act. 21 and 22 on p. 18. We will also use our reviews to practice the conjugations in sentences. Wed we will review irregular “Yo” Thurs and Fri we will review for the test on Monday, by outlining all the topics we have covered in this Etapa Preliminar, and then giving examples for the class..

Week of September 29, 2008- This is a short week! Mon we will have a test on the Etapa Preliminar, and then we have no school Tues and Wed. Thurs we will watch the video for Unidad 1, and go over the requirements for the project. Fri we will practice the vocabulary on p. 49 by playing games—flyswatter, anyone?

Week of October 6, 2008- Students will focus on the new vocabulary in this chapter, which is all about travel and airports. We will begin to look at conjugating preterite verbs, and use some outside sources for practice. (pp. 30-35) Tues-review the endings on the board. Do act. 6orally, 7 written (pp.37-38)Wed.- Review the car,gar,zar verbs p. 38 and do actividades 9 and 10 p. 39. Thurs - No School !!! Fri-Vocabulary and a movie day– we will begin a movie in Spanish, and will be responsible for vocabulary from the film.

Week  of October 13, 2008- This week we will review the preterite tense all week, using the verbs in simple sentences. We will also learn how to conjugate spelling change verbs in the YO form (pp. 36-39). Once again we will use outside sources, including some internet sites, for extra practice. Mon-review the regular endings, and spelling changes on pp. 36-40, and then do the actividades 12 and 13 on p. 41. Tues- Continue review of the first set of irregular verbs on p. 40, and then  with act. 14 and 15 on p. 42- can you use the timeline correctly? Wed- Use the TPR activity on p. 42TE- maybe we will act out the sentences and have other students guess. Thurs- Handouts on irregular verbs and spelling change verbs with more practice (Spanish for Mastery 2)- work in groups, and review on Friday. Any questions? Test next week.

Week of October 20, 2008- More work and review with the preterite verbs. We need to finish irregular preterite verbs (pp.40-41) and do a review before the test on Friday. (read pp. 44-45 and do the exercises on pp. 46-47.) Mon- Read and answer questions on pp. 44-45. Tues-Work individually on pp. 46-47- this is a sample of what will be covered on the test. Review these pages on Wed.    Test on Thursday.  Projects will be due on Friday!!!!!

Week of Oct 27, 2008Mon– Thurs– review our country projects with the class– make sure your powerpoints are compatible to the system.Thurs we will also do the vocab on pp. 74-75 and the preguntas personales. Fri is for the Actividades 3 and 4 on pp.78-79. If we have time, maybe a quick review game…

Week of November 10, 2008– Mon-Tues– We will complete our powerpoint presentations. Wed-Fri– Time to review the preterite tense one more time, before we go on to the imperfect. We will practice by making sentences in class and reviewing on the board, and going over all the endings we have learned so far, including the stem-changing verbs.

Second Marking Period:

Week of November 17, 2008– Because we are still having problems with the preterite,  on Mon we will do one more set of worksheets from the Amsco publications.Tues and Wed we will do a selection of worksheets for practice (from the Spanish for Mastery 2 workbook), and Thurs we will make sentences with all types of preterite verbs. Fri will be time to review our listening skills with a movie en espanol.

Week of November 24, 2008Short week!! Mon we will review the preterite conjugations, and Tues you will have a short test on  this conjugation. This is the last time we will review preterite until the midterm– study!!!!!

Week of December 1 , 2008-We start a new capitulo this week! Mon and Tues- Today we are going to learn the adjectives of nationality. Where in the world is your family from? Make sure you know for this class- and bring your diccionarios. pp. 80-81 and supplemental work. Wed- Thurs: Review the verbs saber and conocer, pp. 81- Act. 9) Fri- Review demonstrative adjectives with Act. 10 on p. 83. We are going to need a few volunteers for this one. Then review verbs like leer in the preterite, which is inside act. 13 on p. 85.

Week of  December 8, 2008–Mon-  Review demonstrative adjectives with Act. 10 on p. 83.   Tues- Complete the activities on pages  82-83on the board. If you have any questions, now is the time! Wed- Listening comprehension practice- peliculas, anyone? Thurs- We will begin our review for the test , using the activities on pp. 92-93.Work in groups to answer the activities- any questions? Do you remember all of the points in the yellow boxes? Fri we will review the answers on the board, and go over any questions or problems you have. Come prepared with your questions. There will be help after school for anyone who needs it.

Week of December 15, 2008- Mon- Test on Unidad 1, Etapa 2/3. Tues Let's review the culture of Mexico as we begin Unidad 2. Look at pages 98-99- here is an overview of la Ciudad de Mexico. What looks familiar? Take a good look at the artists on the page, especially period 7. Put a list of family member vocab on the board. Wed Review the vocabulary on pp. 102-103- Answer the comprehension questions. Be ready to DRAW. (TE p. 103, BSc) Thurs and Fri

Week of December 22, 2008Art in the museum  projects due this week. When we finish, we will an Aztec myth in groups, and compare our ideas. If we have time, we will draw picture to illustrate the story.( pp. 116-177.)

Week of January 5, 2009-Mon: Review the vocabulary with Actividades 3 and 4 on p. 107. Next, do you remember how to say "my" and "our"? We will review simple possessives before we begin the stressed possessive adjectives on p. 108. Do actividades 5 and 6 on pp. 108-109. (Review family vocab on this page.) Tues: NOW we will finally do our reflexive verbs, and you all can stop asking me what the "se" means. We will work on the board, then read p. 110 and do act. 8 and 9. Wed: Let's go over the reflexive verbs once more- do you know the vocabulary on p. 110? You should... Also do TE p. 11Bsc- how many sentences can we make?  Thurs: We will learn a whole verbs tense in one day! Don't believe me? Get ready to sing and to write the imperfect tense. p.112 has the written information, but we will have more fun than this. We will finish with  Act. 11 and 12 on p. 113. Fri: Let's do some review activities from the workbook, using the imperfect, possessive adjectives and family vocab. I will hand out the pages. Remember: BABY Pictures due on Monday!!!!! Keep them a secret.

Week of Jan 5, 2009- Mon-Tues: We are going to use our baby pictures to do the guessing game on TE p. 114LS. Do not show your photos to anyone or you ruin the game Wed:.Review for the test on Thursday- pp. 118-119, Actividades 1-4. Be ready to go over them on Thurs, and have your questions ready. Fri- Test on Unidad 2, Etapa 1.
