Latin III
Course Description: In Latin III, students will attain all Latin
grammar necessary to enable them to read actual works of Roman prose and poetry
which will be taught in Latin IV and V.
Textbook: LATIN FOR AMERICANS BOOK II
Expectations: Students will be prepared for class daily. If help is required, students may bring relevant questions to class, or make an appointment to see Magistra after school.
Syllabus: In Book II, all Latin grammar will be reviewed in Unit I. Unit II introduces the Subjunctive Mood as well as other advanced grammar topics which prepare the student for authentic translation of authors such as Caesar, Livy, Cicero, Vergil, Ovid, and Pliny the Younger.

OBJECTIVES:
UNIT I: Students will review the endings of all five declensions; review the declensions of adjectives; review the present and perfect system active and passive of all regular verbs and sum and possum; review the case uses; review formation and uses of the infinitive, including indirect statement; review participles and the ablative absolute; review relative pronouns and interrogative pronouns and adjectives; review all demonstratives and the emphatic ipse; review the regular and irregular comparison of adjectives and adverbs.

OBJECTIVES FOR JAN. 5 - 9: Students will review the declensions of IS, IDEM, and IPSE. Students will learn the comparison of regular adjectives and adverbs in the comparative and superlative degrees. Students will review Dative with Special Adjectives. Mon., Jan. 5: Please write out #'s 1, 2, 3 of the O.P. - top of p. 47. Tues., Jan. 6: Translate ll. 1 - 12 of the passage "Superstitions" on p. 44.
