Course Description: This course continues to introduce the student to the basic fundamentals of the language; a foundation in vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and an appreciation of cultures and attitudes of the Hispanic world. This course continues to allow the student to comprehensively acquire basic vocabulary while also employing skills in the usage of grammar and syntax. Reading materials, videos, compact discs and the Internet will help to acquaint the student with customs, culture and current events in Spanish-speaking countries.
Textbook: En Espaņol Tres
Expectations: Students need to come to class prepared. An organized notebook and a folder will be preferred. Pens and pencils are needed in class and all quizzes and tests must be taken using a black or blue ink pen. Work is assigned almost every night and it is always checked. Quizzes and tests are always announced ahead of time. A review is always given the day before a test or a quiz. Projects are assigned during the course of the year and are always announced ahead of time to allow for a well preparation. Class participation and a positive attitude are always encouraged. It is the student's responsibility to come to class ready to learn and to participate. All tests, quizzes, projects and collected homework will be assigned a specific point value. The amount of points will be determined by the worth of the work. Your marking period grade is determined on what percentage of points has been accumulate out of the total possible points. Each student will receive a class grade based on how well you have fulfilled his/her responsibilities as a student in class. This grade is given once at the interim and once at the end of the marking period. The Mid-Term Exam is worth 50% and the Final Exam is worth 50%. Being on time for class is mandatory. If a student is late, disciplinary actions will be taken. Keep in mind that learning another language is a lot of fun.

Unidad 1/ Etapa 1: Objectives: Students will be able to describe people and themselves, talk about experiences and list accomplishments in this new lesson.
12/15/08: Imperfect and Preterite tenses. Using worksheet,
students will translate sentences using these two past tenses to show the
difference between them. Students will look for specific indicators
(time expressions and the endings of the verbs) to easily identify each past
tense. Homework: Finish sentences and study the time expressions
associated with each past tense. 12/16/08: Go over sentences on the board. Underline each time expression and verb ending to show the difference between these two past tenses in Spanish. Homework: Worksheet- preterite vs imperfect.
12/17/08: Go over homework to reinforce the uses of the imperfect and the preterite tenses. Using additional activities, continue working with these two past tenses. Homework: Study notes on the imperfect and preterite tenses and do the assigned activities..
12/18/08: Continue working with the imperfect and preterite tenses. Go over the assigned activities and the translations of the sentences on the board. Make the necessary corrections. Homework: Make study flash card for quiz on Monday.
12/19/08: Snow Day- No school.
12/22/08: Quiz: Imperfect vs Preterite Tense. Homework: Look up/ research a holiday tradition in a Spanish-speaking country. Make sure that you include the source and be ready to discuss this tradition in class tomorrow.
12/23/08: Discussion of holiday traditions in many Spanish-speaking country. Distribute vocabulary list for next lesson. Students will look up translation in class of the new vocabulary list. "Feliz Aņo Nuevo 2009" 01/05/09: Distribute review sheets/ study guides for test of Unidad 1/ Etapa 1. Students will be able to use their notes and packets to do all the activities to prepare for test. Homework: Finish all the activities and start studying for test.
01/06/09: Go over the review activities from study guides. Review preterite vs. imperfect by going over quiz taken on 12/22. Homework: Study for test.
01/07/09: Test- Unidad 1/ Etapa 1. Homework: Study the first 15 new nouns from the new vocabulary list.
Objectives: Unidad 1/ Etapa 2. In this lesson, students will be able to describe fashion and talk about past times in Spanish. They will also be able to express actions in the future by using the future tense of regular and irregular verbs in Spanish.
01/08/09: Go over new vocabulary list from Unidad 1/ Etapa 2. Go over the objectives for this new lesson. Book, pages 54-55- "En Contexto". Go over new words for additional reinforcement. Homework: Study the new vocabulary words and take notes on the future tense of regular verbs by using book, page 63.
01/09/09: Go over vocabulary orally and reinforce by using worksheet. Go over the formation of the future tense of regular and irregular verbs by using the notes taken from page 63 in the textbook. Review time expressions associated with the future tense. Do activity # 11 on page 64. Homework: Study new vocabulary list and do worksheet to reinforce the future tense of regular and irregular verbs.
